Source Reduction
Determine what items are being found and where they are coming from, then implement a plan to stop them at the source
What is a Source Reduction Plan?
Once you have good baseline data from a clean-up site, you can use it to understand what common items are found and where they might be coming from. This enables individuals and communities to engage with stakeholders and partners to create a strategy to stop those items from ever entering the environment in the first place. This is called a Source Reduction Plan (SRP).
Below you can see examples of Source Reduction Plans being implemented, so you can learn from what worked and what didn’t. These plans range from Tangaroa Blue or ReefClean campaigns, to small community SRPs.
If you want to create your own Source Reduction Plan, we’ve created a form that provides a framework for you to work through. We are happy to provide advice where we can and signpost to partners who may be able to help you. Please email us with any questions.
