  • January 13, 2026

We're hiring casual Project Coordinators on Christmas Island

Are you passionate about protecting our oceans and want to make a real impact? Tangaroa Blue Foundation is looking for new team members on Christmas Island to help drive community engagement and science-based solutions to tackle marine debris.

Role Title: Project Officer – Indian Ocean Territories
Employment Status: Casual positions with regular flexible hours
Reports To: Operations Manager
Location: Christmas Island (working from home, regular fieldwork) *Candidates must already reside on Christmas Island

Applications close: Open ended, please get in touch if you would like to apply.

About the Role

As our major Indian Ocean Territories grant-funded project wraps up, we’re looking for casual project coordinators who can help Tangaroa Blue continue to deliver some of the key elements of our work on the island.

This is a new role and differs from the previous on-island position. We’re looking for current members of the Christmas Island community to work alongside Tangaroa Blue Foundation to keep the community engaged with the marine debris issue and to conduct quarterly monitoring.

How to apply

If you are interested in working in marine conservation on Christmas Island, get in touch (contact@tangaroablue.org) so we can have a chat about how we can utilise your skills. We have positions available to suit a range of skillsets. Your work could include:

  • Leading community beach clean-ups
  • Conducting quarterly analysis of marine debris across various beaches on Christmas Island
  • Helping to run source reduction initiatives like the IOT Esky Library

Not sure if your skills match the role?

If you are passionate about the ocean but not sure if your skills are the right fit – get in touch anyway. We would love to hear from any on-island residents who are keen to protect their local environment.
