ReefClean – Cape Kimberley Clean-up, Daintree QLD
Do you live in the Daintree, or just like to come up for the day? Why not come along to help out with our quarterly clean-up at the lovely Cape Kimberley? Come along and join other volunteers to make a practical contribution to the health of the marine and coastal environment.
Tangaroa Blue coordinators will depart from Cairns, and there is an opportunity to travel with them in a minibus from Cairns or Port Douglas – limited spots, so registrations are necessary.
Pick up times are as follows:
6:00am Tobruk Pool bus stop.
6:15am Smithfield Shopping Centre bus stop (Captain Cook Hwy – Woolworths end of Shopping Centre).
7:00am IGA Carpark Port Douglas
We will spend the morning collecting and recording marine debris for inclusion in the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database. This is the national database that is used to identify sources of marine debris and find ways to reduce litter in the environment.
The event is part of the ReefClean project, aiming to clean-up reduce the volume of marine debris generated in or entering the Great Barrier Reef and threatening the health of the reef and its inhabitants.
Volunteers need to wear enclosed shoes, bring sun/rain protection, and plenty of drinking water (1 to 2 litres is recommended). We try to ensure that all Tangaroa Blue events are free from single-use plastic, so bring along your reusable water bottle. All equipment and drinking water top-ups will be provided. To register or for any questions, please email info@tangaroablue.org.
ReefClean is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and is delivered by the Tangaroa Blue Foundation.
