ReefBlitz Apex Park, Townsville – QLD

Celebrate ReefBlitz by spending the morning at Apex Park, cleaning up litter from the banks and waterways of the Upper Ross River before it flows down and out into the ocean. Apex Park is an ecologically sensitive area that was designed to provide the local community with access to waterfront activities in an environmental. Unfortunately, due to such activity a lot of food packaging, drink containers, and cigarette butts are left behind in the environment. The river links our actions on land to the ocean, so come out and help us protect our local waterways by removing the intoxicating litter before it washes out into Cleveland Bay and further out to the reefs and open ocean.
As a participant please bring:
– reusable water bottle
– wear sturdy enclosed footwear
– hat & sunnies, sunscreen & sun smart clothing

ReefBlitz is an annual month-long series of events, which has been running for five years, engaging the community in citizen science and on-ground local action that contributes to reef health and resilience. Data will be recorded on the rubbish that is collected, which contributes to the 14-year-old Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database. There will be 8 coastal clean-up events running October 12th, 13th and 21st around the Townsville and Magnetic Island area, so please keep an eye on ReefBlitz activities here – https://tockify.com/reefblitz2018/detail/12/1539266400000
