Rig Recycle

Diverting Recreational Fishing Gear from Landfill

HOST a Rig Recycle Station

Join our 80+ Rig Recycle hosts across Australia and apply to host a Rig Recycle station at your tackle store or fishing club.

Give your customers the option to keep their fishing gear out of landfill. Once your station is full we’ll come collect its contents to Reuse, Repurpose or Recycle.

What can you put in a Rig Recycle Station?

We only take fishing gear that we know we can either Reuse, Repurpose or Recycle. Our team sort it by hand, so please make sure your gear is clean before depositing it.

  • Fishing Line
  • Plastic Spools
  • Handline Spools
  • Hooks
  • Sinkers
  • Swivels
  • Lures
  • Floats
  • We cannot accept bait packaging, soft plastics, rods, reels, life jackets or flares.

Why recycle fishing gear?

The Rig Recycle program was set up to fill a need from the industry to close the loop on recreational fishing waste.

Responsible fishers love their local environment and reducing waste is just another way to preserve your favourite fishing spots for the future.

By depositing your fishing gear at a Rig Recycle station instead of landfill (or leaving it in the environment), you're helping to reduce waste and protect our waterways.

What we do with your fishing gear

Our team regularly service the Rig Recycle stations across the country, sorting your fishing gear, recording it on the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database and diverting it through the right circular pathway.

We're continuing to develop innovative recycling pathways for fishing gear, including recycling monofilament line and plastic spools. Rig Recycle store hosts get exclusive first access to new Rig Recycle products, like our Premium Sunglasses (powered by TONIC Eyewear).
