ReefClean GBR Clean-up Flagship Event – Pallarenda Beach, Townsville, QLD

What: ReefClean GBR Clean-up Flagship Event – Pallarenda Beach, Townsville, QLD
Where: Freemason’s Park
When: Friday the 1st of October at 9am
Registration for ReefClean’s Great Barrier Reef Clean-up is now open! Join us at Pallarenda Beach, Townsville to not only keep our beautiful beaches clean by removing marine debris from the environment, but also contribute to science!
Following the collection of debris, volunteers will assist in the sorting and recording of all debris collected. A member of the Tangaroa Blue team will assist volunteers with this process and explain how to correctly enter this important data into the AMDI database.

Volunteers need to wear enclosed shoes, bring sun/rain protection, and plenty of drinking water (1 to 2 litres is recommended). We try to ensure that all events are free from single-use plastic, so bring along your reusable water bottle. All equipment and drinking water top-ups will be provided.
We would like to acknowledge the Bindal and Wulgurukaba People, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we will be meeting for this event.

More about the Great Barrier Reef Clean-up:
Are you a citizen scientist who is concerned about the health of the Great Barrier Reef? Maybe a school or community group who would like to monitor the health of the Great Barrier Reef? Or are you a member of the local government, and would like to lead by example by becoming actively involved in contributing to the overall health of one of the most biologically diverse environments on this planet?
This October marks the start of our month-long series of events that focus on looking after our Reef. Tangaroa Blue Foundation, through the ReefClean Project is calling all ocean lovers to participate in the Great Barrier Reef Clean-Up. A number of flagship events such as the one above will be held over the course of the month.
The program also invites groups to adopt and register their own coastal or waterway sites to be cleaned throughout the month, so if you know of a site in your area that needs attention, we encourage you to register that site and get a group together. Please click here to register your own site.
