Join the ReefClean project and help prevent marine debris from entering the Great Barrier Reef! During this monitoring event, you’ll be helping to clean-up Facing Island whilst also gathering important information for the Australian Marine Debris Initiative. No prior experience is necessary; our friendly team leaders will teach you everything that you need to know on the day.

Facing Island is one of the two largest islands surrounding Gladstone Harbour. The island borders the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, has a significant flatback turtle nesting habitat, wetlands, and mangrove systems important for fish and bird life.

Volunteers will join forces to remove debris from key sites including East Point, Castle Rock, and Possum Point, before coming together for debris sorting and a community lunch at Oaks Camp. With barge transfers and catering provided, it will be a rewarding day of action, teamwork, and care for our marine environment!

Volunteers need to wear enclosed shoes, bring sun/rain protection, and plenty of drinking water (1 to 2 litres is recommended). We try to ensure that all events are free from single-use plastic, so bring along your reusable water bottle. All equipment and drinking water top-ups will be provided.
