Facing Island Beach Clean-Up is one of our twice-yearly ReefClean projects aimed at helping prevent marine debris impacting the Great BarrierReef. The event involves a clean-up as well as sorting and entering what is collected into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative Database.
This April event will be done in partnership and support of the Gidarjil
Development Corporation Land and Sea Rangers and the Gladstone Regional Council Conservation Team as part of their land care program on Facing Island and with support from Fitzroy Basin Association through their Community Bursary.
Please be sure to bring a hat, sun-safe clothing, closed-in shoes, personal snacks and water bottle. Top ups will be provided. Lunch will also be provided by Tangaroa Blue.
We would like to acknowledge the Port Curtis Coral Coast people, (the Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng and Tarabilang Bunda groups) as Traditional Custodians of the land on which we meet, and would also like to pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
Additional Information:
Facing Island one of the two largest islands surrounding the Gladstone Harbour. The island bounds the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, has a significant flatback turtle nesting habitat, wetlands and mangrove systems important for fish and bird life.
