Chilli Beach Clean-up – Cape York, QLD
Chilli Beach is a 7km stretch of white tropical beach, fringed with coconut palms and impressive sand dunes, with magnificent pink sunrises that make this place paradise! Unfortunately, it is also another hotspot for marine debris in the remote Cape York region. We will rehabilitate the stretch of coastline over five days by removing, sorting and recording rubbish items from this picture-perfect paradise.
We will meet and depart from Cairns at 8am, traveling to Coen where we will spend our first night on the road. We will make some side stops over the two-day drive before reaching our campsite which we will call home for the next five days.
Seats are limited so register early to secure your spot! Volunteers with their own 4WD vehicles are welcome to join our convoy to drive up to this event, or can meet us on site, just let us know!
We will be in close proximity to the Aboriginal community of Lockhart River, so basic shopping facilities are a relatively short trip away by car. The camp area is very basic with only toilets onsite and we will be able to do a shower run throughout the week to QLD Parks and Wildlife’s base.
We will set up our kitchen and prepare our meals together, so all food and equipment will be provided. All you need to bring is your sleeping gear (tents, blankets, pillow, mattress, etc).
