This is an event for the truly adventurous due to the remoteness of the area and the basic facilities provided on site.
Captain Billy’s is a very remote site on the eastern side of the Cape York Peninsula on Wuthathi Country. For three days we will be collecting and sorting the rubbish from this exposed coastline and entering it into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database.
We will meet and depart from Cairns early in the morning, travelling to Archer River, where we will spend our first night. We will make a couple of stops over the two-day drive before reaching our campsite at the Wuthathi ranger base which we will call home for the next five days. We will set up our kitchen and prepare our meals together, so all food and equipment will be provided. All you need to bring is your sleeping gear (tents, blankets, pillow, mattress, etc).
Seats are limited so register early to secure your spot!Volunteers with their own 4WD vehicles are welcome to join our convoy to drive up to this event, or can meet us on site, just let us know.
These trips are very fun and rewarding but also very challenging. Volunteers need to be fit and comfortable camping in remote locations with limited facilities. A pre registration interview will be conducted to assess the suitability of volunteers and discuss any questions.
On this trip we will be working on the land and sea country of the Wuthathi people, and we pay our respects to the Elders past and present.
ReefClean is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and is delivered by Tangaroa Blue Foundation and ReefClean partners.
