Captain Billy Landing is a very remote site on the eastern side of the Cape York Peninsula. For five days we will be collecting and sorting the rubbish from this exposed coastline and entering it into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database.
This is an event for the truly adventurous due to the remoteness of the area and the very basic facilities provided on site.
We will set up our kitchen and prepare our meals together, so all food and equipment will be provided. All you need to bring is your sleeping gear (tents, blankets, pillow, mattress, etc).
We will meet and depart from Cairns early in the morning, travelling to Coen, where we will spend our first night. We will make some site-seeing stops over the two-day drive before reaching our campsite at Captain Billy’s which we will call home for the next five days.
Seats are limited so register early to secure your spot! Volunteers with their own 4WD vehicles are welcome to join our convoy to drive up to this event, or can meet us on site, just let us know.
On this trip we will be travelling through, and working on the land and sea country of the Atambaya, Angkamuthi, Yadhaykenu, Gudang and Wuthathi peoples, and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
ReefClean is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and is delivered by the Tangaroa Blue Foundation.
