Cape York – Mapoon Beach Clean-up 2025

Join Tangaroa Blue Foundation, the Old Mapoon Aboriginal Corporation (OMAC), and the Mapoon Land and Sea Rangers as we head north to tackle marine debris on the beautiful beaches of Mapoon.

Over five days, we’ll roll up our sleeves to remove and sort debris, helping to keep this stunning coastline clean and contributing important data to the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database. Together, we can protect the Cape York coastline from marine debris!

The Journey:
We’ll depart from Cairns early and travel as a group to Archer River, where we’ll camp for the night. With scenic stops along the way, there’ll be plenty of chances to snap some photos and stretch the legs before we arrive at Cullen Point—our base for the clean-up.

Schedule:

  • Fri 20 June: Cairns > Archer River
  • Sat 21 June: Archer River > Mapoon
  • Sun 22 June: Thur 26 June: Beach clean-up
  • Fri 27 June: Mapoon > Hann River
  • Sat 28 June: Travel to Cairns

Camping & Facilities:
We’ll be camping at Cullen Point where facilities include toilets and cold showers. Be prepared for mosquitoes and sandflies—long sleeves and insect repellent are a must!

Tangaroa Blue will provide:

  • Clean-up gear and equipment
  • All meals during the five-day camp
  • A rewarding and unforgettable experience

What to bring:

  • Your personal camping gear (tent, mattress, sleeping bag, pillow, etc.)
  • Sun protection and insect bite protection
  • Refillable water bottle and your camera if you’d like to capture the journey!

Got a 4WD?

We will be working on the traditional land and sea country of the Tjungundji People, and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
