Over 70 people attended a ceremony at Government House on Wednesday, October 16th, which saw eight winners chosen to represent Western Australia at the 2014 National Landcare Awards.
Hosted by His Excellency Mr Malcolm McCusker, AC CVO QC, Governor of Western Australia and Patron of Landcare Western Australia, the biennial event celebrated the achievements of Landcare by honouring groups and individuals from across the state.
Tangaroa Blue Foundation took out the Coastcare Award for its work on removing and reducing marine debris in Western Australia.
Governor McCusker was very happy to have the opportunity to host the ceremony and congratulated those involved.
“I would like to convey my congratulations to all winners and finalists involved in the 2013 WA Landcare Awards. Western Australia has a proud history in natural resource management and Landcare, and it gives me great pleasure to be involved in celebrating the impressive achievements of such an active community,” he said.
Landcare Australia CEO, Tessa Jakszewicz, was very impressed with the array of projects and groups honoured at the ceremony.
“It is fantastic to see the diversity and strength of the Landcare movement in Western Australia as exhibited by all nominees and winners at this year’s Landcare Awards. I very much look forward to welcoming the winners to next year’s National Landcare Awards as we celebrate 25 years of the movement on a national level,” she said.
