Support our mission to tackle marine debris in the Great Barrier Reef like never before.
In an exciting collaboration with Ship4Good, Tangaroa Blue Foundation is equipping the MV Steve Irwin for a large-scale marine debris campaign – and we need your help!
Once ready, the ship will have the capacity to remove up to 50 tonnes of debris from the Great Barrier Reef region on each mission, targeting remote hotspots and difficult-to-access areas. Beyond removal, the ship will also serve as a hub for innovative research and community education, uniting the public and partners in the fight against marine debris, a major global environmental threat.

2000 tonnes and counting...
Through the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database we’ve now removed and recorded more than 2000 tonnes of marine debris – that’s equivalent to 67 humpback whales!
We work with communities to remove marine debris, increase local knowledge on where it comes from, and help to create plans to reduce marine debris at its source.
In 2024, we removed 2.2 million marine debris items from the coastline.
- 90,000 KGs marine debris collected
- 18,000 event volunteers
- 3,399 clean-up events run
