Miallo State School

Miallo SSWelcome to Miallo State School

We are more than an award-winning school-more than a record of high achievement in academics, sport, arts and student leadership. We are a family-orientated school over 100 years old where traditions are valued and innovation is embraced.

Our school is considered a leader in the field of explicit teaching pedagogy. Winning the 'Network Ten Excellence in the Early Phase of Learning Showcase Award' for the FNQ Region is a testament to our outstanding work in this field.

We are located approximately ten kilometres from Mossman in Far North Queensland. Our school borders the rainforest-fringed Miallo Creek and is nestled in a rural area amongst cane fields and breathtaking scenery. Our students come from the surrounding areas of Miallo, Whyanbeel Valley, Bamboo, Syndicate and Rocky Point, but also travel from Newell Beach, Mossman and Port Douglas.

Miallo Students Collect 115kg!

Miallo 1On Friday the 31st of October 2014, 21 students from Miallo State School joined Tangaroa Blue at the Rocky Point beach with the hope of making a positive impact on their local coastal and marine environment.

During the first session, students participated in a discussion about the origins and impacts of marine debris, and learnt all about Tangaroa Blue and the Australian Marine Debris Initiative. Then with hats on heads and bags in hands, the students descended onto the beach and proceeded to enthusiastically pounce upon every item that was not meant to be there.
