Boyne Island Environmental Education Centre

Pete Pelican LogoThe Boyne Island Environmental Education Centre (BIEEC) is largely self-
funded centre operating as part of Education Queensland’s resource support for sustainability and environmental education by promoting, demonstrating and modelling environmental education for sustainability.

The centre promotes, develops and delivers highly effective outdoor and environmental education programs for schools and the community and provides professional development for teachers.

BIEEC caters for approximately 5,000 students each year. The centre is located at Boyne Island, 20km south of the port city of Gladstone, Central Queensland.

BIEEC’s unique location allows its curriculum to emphasise the natural coastal, marine and reef environments and human use of these areas. It is the only environmental education centre to conduct extended wilderness excursions to the outer Great Barrier Reef.
