ReefClean’s Great Barrier Reef Clean-up Flagship Event – Hinchinbrook Island, QLD

Registration for ReefClean’s Great Barrier Reef Clean-up is now open.
Meet us at Bursill Park, off Dungeness Rd in Lucinda on Saturday and Sunday the 5th-6th of October. There will be a barge to take volunteers to Mulligan Bay Beach on Hinchinbrook Island. Times are dependent on debris load and we may finish early, but as a guide, we’re blocking off from 8 am – 4 pm, with lunch provided for our volunteers.
Volunteers should wear enclosed footwear that you don’t mind getting wet and long pants/stinger suits as there is the possibility that the barge is unable to get onto shore with the tide and you’ll have to wade to the beach in knee-high water. Other sun-smart clothing is appropriate including hats. We will have some sunscreen, but recommend bringing some along as well as your reusable water bottle.
The clean-up data you collect will help us track litter to its source and prevent it from entering the waste stream and harming our Great Barrier Reef.

The program also invites groups to adopt and register their own coastal or waterway sites to be cleaned throughout the month, so if you know of a site in your area that needs attention, we encourage you to register that site and get a group together. Please click here to register your own site.
