SUMMARY:Caves Beach Sunrise CITO with Tangaroa Blue
DESCRIPTION:\nLet’s come together as Geocachers who care for our Beaches and Marine Life and want to do more than just pick up rubbish.\n“If all we do is clean-up, that’s all we’ll ever do” Heidi Tait, Founder of Tangaroa Blue and the Australian Marine Debris Initiative\nBack in 2022 I was lucky enough to join the Tangaroa Blue https://tangaroablue.org/ team of volunteers for a week at the top of Cape York. We cleaned the 5 Beach Loop, picking up 3 tonnes of rubbish. We also sorted all that rubbish into categories of materials, sizes, lengths, weights, brands and country of origin. All this data was entered into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database to assist in prevention and education initiatives.\nI found all this to be a valuable experience I’d love to share with the Geocaching community. For this reason I am putting on my Tangaroa Blue and AMDI hats to guide us through a collection, sorting debris and enter our data into the system during Beach CITOs.\nCape York Five Beach Clean Up\nJoin us in making our Earth a better place and being part of the amazing community of people creating change.\nWhere: Caves Beach. Meet at the picnic tables near the surf club.\nDate: Sunday 1st November\nTime: 0700 to 0830 (low tide is around 0720). Come for the full event or help out for an hour. I will be there early to set up the sorting station and watch the sunrise.\nBriefing will begin at 0700 and the debrief with our data collection results will start at 0815 with a Mylo’s coffee.\nBring: Sun hat, sunglasses and grabbing tool. There is a water refill station nearby.\nI will provide sunscreen, gloves, bags, 1st aid kit, sharps container and hand sanitiser.\nThere will also be fresh fruit and electrolytes (BYO reusable cup or bottle) and a prize draw.\nThis is a patrolled beach and is safe to swim, with Surf Lifesavers on patrol, so bring your swimwear.\nNo crocodiles!\nRegister: https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCBYZ0R_caves-beach-sunrise-cito-with-tangaroa-blue\nThis event is run by one of our dedicated volunteers and is not an official Tangaroa Blue Foundation event. \n\n
