SUMMARY:ReefClean: Facing Island Monitoring Clean-up
DESCRIPTION:What: Facing Island Monitoring Clean-up\nWhen: Wednesday 29th April 7:00 am – 5:00 pm\nWhere: We will meet at Curtis Ferry Services on Alf O’Rourke Drive, Gladstone Marina\nTo Register: monique@tangaroablue.org \nJoin the ReefClean project and help prevent marine debris from entering the Great Barrier Reef! During this monitoring event, you’ll be helping to clean-up Facing Island whilst also gathering important information for the Australian Marine Debris Initiative. No prior experience is necessary; our friendly team leaders will teach you everything that you need to know on the day.\nFacing Island is one of the two largest islands surrounding Gladstone Harbour. The island borders the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, has a significant flatback turtle nesting habitat, wetlands, and mangrove systems important for fish and bird life.\nA huge thank you to Curtis Ferry Services and Gladstone Ports Corporation for their continued support of this event.\nVolunteers need to wear enclosed shoes, bring sun/rain protection, and plenty of drinking water (1 to 2 litres is recommended). We try to ensure that all events are free from single-use plastic, so bring along your reusable water bottle. All equipment and drinking water top-ups will be provided.\n———————————————–\nWe would like to acknowledge the Port Curtis Coral Coast people (the Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng and Tarabilang Bunda groups) as Traditional Custodians of the land on which we meet, and would also like to pay our respects to the Elders both past, present and emerging.\nReefClean is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and delivered by Tangaroa Blue Foundation\n
