SUMMARY:Chili Beach Clean-up, Cape York
DESCRIPTION:***Thank you everyone for your interest in this event. Unfortunately, we are at capacity in terms of seats in our vehicles. If you are still interested in joining and have your own 4×4, or if you’d like to be put on the waiting list, please contact mathilde@tangaroablue.org.***\nDates:\nTravel Cairns to Chilli Beach: 30th-31st July 2022\nClean-up: 1st-5th August 2022\nTravel Chilli Beach to Cairns: 6th-7th August 2022\nFor more information and to register please contact mathilde@tangaroablue.org\nChilli Beach is a 7km stretch of white tropical beach, fringed with coconut palms and impressive sand dunes, situated on the lands of the Kuuku Ya’u people. Unfortunately, it is also another hotspot for marine debris in the remote Cape York region. We will rehabilitate the stretch of coastline over five days by removing, sorting and recording rubbish items from this beach and entering it into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) database.\nWe will meet and depart from Cairns early in the morning, travelling to Coen where we will spend our first night on the road. We will make some side stops over the two-day drive before reaching our campsite which we will call home for the next five days.\nSeats are limited so register early to secure your spot! Volunteers with their own 4WD vehicles are welcome to join our convoy to drive up to this event, or can meet us on site, just let us know.\nWe will be in close proximity to the Aboriginal community of Lockhart River, so basic shopping facilities are a relatively short trip away by car. The camp area is very basic with only toilets onsite and we will be able to do one shower run throughout the week to QLD Parks and Wildlife’s base.\nWe will set up our kitchen and prepare our meals together, so all food and equipment will be provided. All you need to bring is your sleeping gear (tents, blankets, pillow, mattress, etc).\nOn this trip we will be travelling through, and working on the land and sea Country of the Kuuku Ya’u people, and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.\nReefClean is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and is delivered by the Tangaroa Blue Foundation.\n—————————–\nTangaroa Blue will be adhering to the latest advice from the QLD Government on COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines. Prior to departure, participants will be asked to declare that they have not come from any recognised COVID-19 hotspot in the past fortnight and that they have not displayed any COVID-19 like symptoms within 14 days of the trip departure date.\n
