SUMMARY:ReefClean – Facing Island Community Beach Clean-Up
DESCRIPTION:What: ReefClean – Facing Island Community Beach Clean-Up\nWhen: Wednesday 13th October 2021 7:30 am – 5pm\nWhere: We will meet at Curtis Ferry Services on Alf O’Rourke Drive, Gladstone Marina for 8am Departure to Facing Island returning by 5pm\nTo Register: Limited spaces are available so please contact Ian Anderson by email ian@tangaroablue.org or phone 0458 737 760\nYour own 4WD vehicle, if you have one, would be an advantage for movement around the island and Tangaroa Blue will meet the cost of barge transfer.\nFacing Island Beach Clean-Up is one of our twice – yearly ReefClean Projects aimed at helping prevent marine debris impacting the Great Barrier Reef. The clean-up is undertaken by Tangaroa Blue coordinating a group of volunteers to collect marine debris, sort and enter into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative Database.\nFacing Island is one of the two largest islands surrounding the Gladstone Harbour. The island borders the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, has a significant flatback turtle nesting habitat, wetlands and mangrove systems important for fish and bird life.\nThis October event will be done in partnership with Gladstone Ports Corporation as part of their land care program on Facing Island.\nVolunteers need to wear enclosed shoes, bring sun/rain protection, and plenty of drinking water (1 to 2 litres is recommended). We try to ensure that all events are free from single-use plastic, so bring along your reusable water bottle. All equipment and drinking water top-ups will be provided. Lunch will also be provided by Tangaroa Blue.\nWe would like to acknowledge the Port Curtis Coral Coast people, (the Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng and Tarabilang Bunda groups) as Traditional Custodians of the land on which we meet, and would also like to pay our respects to the Elders both past, present and emerging.\n———————————————–\nPlease note this is a COVID Safe Event – we do require volunteers to register. Please ensure that you check the latest QLD Government COVID requirements and if you feel unwell, please don’t attend and stay at home, we’ll catch you at a future event.\nReefClean is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and delivered by Tangaroa Blue Foundation\n
