The clean-up is undertaken by Tangaroa Blue coordinating a group of volunteers to collect marine debris, sort and enter into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative Database.\nThis October event will be done in partnership with QPWS Rangers, and with support from the Young Veterans Association. The event will be used to highlight the significance of the area by engaging volunteers in marine debris removal, data collection and entry into the AMDI Database. The data will then be used to assist in identifying the source of the marine debris and to develop strategies that prevent it occurring in the future.\nVolunteers need to wear enclosed shoes, bring sun/rain protection, and plenty of drinking water (1 to 2 litres is recommended). We try to ensure that all events are free from single-use plastic, so bring along your reusable water bottle. All equipment and drinking water top-ups will be provided.\nMeals provided by Capricorn Lodge including lunch and dinner on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday. We encourage to bring your own snacks (some refreshments are available from Capricorn Lodge)\nWe would like to acknowledge the Port Curtis Coral Coast people, (the Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng and Tarabilang Bunda groups) as Traditional Custodians of the land on which we meet, and would also like to pay our respects to the Elders both past, present and emerging.\nCurtis Island is the second largest island in Queensland, with a large proportion of the island designated as National Park. The island borders the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and has significant turtle nesting habitat, wetlands and mangrove systems important for fish and bird life.\n———————————————–\nPlease note this is a COVID Safe Event – we do require volunteers to register. Please ensure that you check the latest QLD Government COVID requirements and if you feel unwell, please don’t attend and stay at home, we’ll catch you at a future event.\nReefClean is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and delivered by Tangaroa Blue Foundation\n
