SUMMARY:Captain Billy’s Landing Clean-up, Cape York
DESCRIPTION:Dates:\nTravel Cairns to Captain Billy’s Landing: 22nd & 23rd May 2021\nClean-up: 22nd to 28th May 2021\nTravel Captain Billy’s to Cairns: 29th & 30th May\nTo register and for more information please contact mathilde@tangaroablue.org\nEvent Information:\nCaptain Billy Landing is a very remote place far north on the eastern side of the Cape York Peninsula. For five days we will be collecting and sorting the rubbish from this exposed coastline and entering it into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database. As a reward for our hard work, we’ll take a side trip to the amazing Fruit Bat Falls!\nThis is an event for the truly adventurous due to the remoteness of the area and the very basic facilities provided on site.\nWe will set up our kitchen and prepare our meals together, so all food and equipment will be provided. All you need to bring is your sleeping gear (tents, blankets, pillow, mattress, etc).\nWe will meet and depart from Cairns early in the morning, travelling to Coen where we will spend our first night on the road. We will make some side stops over the two-day drive before reaching our campsite which we will call home for the next five days.\nSeats are limited so register early to secure your spot! Volunteers with their own 4WD vehicles are welcome to join our convoy to drive up to this event, or can meet us on site, just let us know.\nOn this trip we will be travelling through, and working on the land and sea country of the Atambaya, Angkamuthi, Yadhaykenu, Gudang and Wuthathi peoples, and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.\n————————————————-\nCOVID-19 restrictions and requirements\nTangaroa Blue will be adhering to the latest advice from the QLD Government on COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines (https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/gove…/covid-safe-businesses). Prior to departure, participants will be asked to declare that they have not come from overseas or any other recognised COVID-19 hotspot in the past fortnight and that they have not displayed any COVID-19 like symptoms within 14 days of the trip departure date.\nDue to limited space on this clean-up, we will be conducting a short interview with interested volunteers.\nThe event is part of the ReefClean program, aiming to clean-up reduce the volume of marine debris generated in or entering the Great Barrier Reef and threatening the health of the reef and its inhabitants.\nReefClean is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and is delivered by the Tangaroa Blue Foundation.\nFor more information and to register please contact mathilde@tangaroablue.org\n
