SUMMARY:ReefClean Youth Forum, Grades 5-8 – The Power of Data to Create Change
DESCRIPTION:Families and students in grades 5-8 are invited to join our education presentation, “Don’t Waste our Reef – The Power of Data to Create Change.”\nReefClean is a project to remove and reduce marine debris impacting the Great Barrier Reef through direct action and education. Marine debris can harm marine life, pose a navigational hazard, smother coral, and negatively affect tourism. As part of our five-year ReefClean project, we would like you to take part by joining this interactive session where we will discuss the following questions:\nWhat is marine debris and where does it come from?\nWhy does it matter?\nHow do we know what rubbish is causing problems?\nWhat can you do to help reduce marine debris and protect the reef in your region?\nLearn how to record important information about the debris being collected in our community clean-up events and contribute to the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database, which is used by a network of on-ground volunteers, communities, organisations, and partners that contribute data from rubbish collected during beach and river clean-up events to the Database, and then work on solutions to stop the flow of litter at the source.\nThe presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, 24/06/2020. and is being offered in two sessions – one for schools and one for families.\nSchool presentation at 1:30 pm\nHome viewing option at 4 pm\nPlease register to join via EventbriteEventbrite. The presentation will be held virtually via Zoom. All information will be sent out once you have registered. For more information, email info@tangaroablue.org. We look forward to seeing you there.\nReefClean is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust.\n
