Quizmaster Tours Australia to Combat Ocean Plastic!

Anthony QuizSurfer, quizmaster and plastics campaigner, Anthony Hill is touring Australia holding trivia nights for families in selected venues to raise awareness and funds to combat the growing problem of plastic debris in our oceans. The project is supported by Surfrider Foundation and now Tangaroa Blue and the Australian Marine Debris Initiative are keen to align and lend a hand!!

Do you know your trivia? You can arrange a Family Trivia Night in your town or suburb just by This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.- It's a family fun way of raising awareness for a serious environmental problem.

Although Anthony grew up in Coffs Harbour, he has spent the last 21 years living in Bergen, Norway holding trivia nights for people of all ages, on TV, radio and for audiences of up to 900 people at a time. He has been raising awareness for ocean plastics in Norway for the last 4 years and was nominated for a national environmental award in January 2014 at an international conference on marine debris held in Oslo.

The tour started in Sydney with the first event being a great success at The New Brighton Hotel, Manly on 5th September. The following events, held at The Newport Arms, Harbord Diggers Club, Burwood Inn, Newcastle, have attracted participants of up to and over 100 people per venue.

Family Trivia Nights have now been booked at 9 more venues up the NSW north coast to Kingscliff and some venues have asked for a repeat performance!!

Anthony has used his own funds to establish The Family Trivia Tour but is hoping to be able to raise enough money at each venue to keep him on the road. Any profits will be divided between Surfrider Foundation, Tangaroa Blue and any other projects that Anthony deems worthy. After Christmas, Anthony will be touring the coast south of Sydney and aims to make his way round the whole country over the next year or two.

The trivia night involves general knowledge questions for people of all ages, bonus competitions, pictures, sound & action. At the beginning of each trivia night Anthony speaks about the growing problem of plastic debris and at the end he talks about solutions and how everyone, no matter how old or young, can make a difference. A slideshow raising awareness of the plastics issue runs on the screens while a special competition called "Heads & Tails" gives illuminating and horrifying facts about the state of our oceans!

At each trivia night, participants are asked to sign a letter to their member for state parliament supporting a national Container Deposit Scheme which will go a long way in keeping plastic containers out of the oceans. NSW Premier Mike Baird has already received a large pile of these letters signed by his constituents.

The hardest part of the whole project is promoting it in each community to ensure a good turnout so Anthony is hoping that members and supporters of Tangaroa Blue may be able to assist with this (and finding the appropriate venue) when he approaches their town. Tour dates are listed on his website under "The Tour".

So far, Family Trivia Nights have been held in all kinds of venues from Pubs, RSL Clubs, Golf Clubs, Bowling Clubs, Community Halls and Schools. It's important that there is PA (mic & mixer) and AV equipment (projector & screen) available for free use.

Here is a rough estimate of when he will be in or approaching each region:
January/February - NSW South Coast and Victoria coast to Melbourne.
March/April - Tasmania, Victoria coast from Melbourne to Adelaide.
May/June - Adelaide to Perth.
July/August - Perth to Darwin
September/October - Darwin to Port Douglas
November/December - Port Douglas to Gold Coast

This is a rough guide and may vary according to bookings. Some regional and country areas have expressed an interest and Anthony has considered touring inland and remote areas either during
or after the main tour.
