Ross River Monitoring Project

When: March 2nd 2018 from 8:00am to 4:00pm
Where: Meet at Aplin’s Weir Rotary Park

Site 1 - Aplin’s Weir Rotary Park;
Site 2 – Mangroves near the Port Access Road Bridge

Tangaroa Blue will be setting up two long-term monitoring sites along the Ross River on March 2nd 2018 to assess the amount of litter that’s entering Townsville’s waterways, in particular plastic bags and drink containers. The data collected during these clean-up events will not only contribute to the Australian Marine Debris Database but also towards monitoring the Container Refund Scheme and Plastic Bag Ban that will be implemented in Queensland on July 1st 2018.

As a participant you will need:
1. To be available for the whole day as we’ll be tackling 100m transects at both sites in one day
2. To be comfortable with data collection
3. To being a reusable water bottle and lunch
4. To wear enclosed sturdy footwear, a hat, sunnies, sunscreen and sun smart clothing

What’s provided:
1. Extra water, sunscreen and bug spray
2. Clean-up and safety equipment
3. Drinks and snacks
